Federal Skilled Trades Canada - Immigration via Express Entry

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is an immigration initiative established in 2013. Its primary goal is to invite international tradespeople to fill roles highly sought-after by Canadian employers. From 2015 onwards, the Canadian Government has processed FSTP applications through the Express Entry online system.

Which occupations qualify for immigration under the Federal Skilled Trades?

 

Only the following occupations in the training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) 2 or 3 are eligible to participate in the FSTP:

Federal Skilled Trades Program requirements


If your profession falls under technical trades, such as an electrician, construction worker, equipment technician, welder, mechanic, agricultural technician, cook, truck driver, butcher, or baker, you may be eligible for immigration through the FSTP. The main requirements of the FSTP are:

Proficiency in English or French at CLB 5 for speaking and listening (Equivalent to IELTS 5.0 and CELPIP 5) and CLB 4 for writing and reading (IELTS 4.0 for writing and 3.5 for reading and CELPIP 4).

Two years of work experience within the last five years in an occupation in the TEER 2 or 3.

An official job offer from a Canadian employer for a period of at least one year OR having a certificate of qualifications in their profession (license to practice) issued by a federal or provincial professional community.
